Reaching Goals

I came across this (attached) and it reminded me of something Ustādh Tahseen Hamid (Lisaan) mentioned in the last talk for the salah programme (highly recommend if you missed it). A friend quoted it back to me on Friday, actually, which is what reminded me.

Ustādh was explaining that you may calculate it would take you X number of years to memorise the entire Qurʾān if you learn Y lines per day.

This can overwhelm some people and so they end up not doing anything.

But when those years pass, you think, for example, wow I could have memorised 15 ajzā’ if I'd started back then!

The idea was to start, and not to delay, nor become overwhelmed by how long it may take you to complete.... Ustādh also explained that the process changes you.. I loved that.

I came across this post online from a scholar:

This post is essentially about reaching your goal.

The teacher says that reaching your goal slowly is better than rushing to reach it and missing.

Hitting your target requires precision.

If you think about someone shooting an arrow, they have to be very precise. There is no point rushing!

He adds that we should keep in mind the scarcity of time, and how much benefit there is to be gained from your goal. This will motivate us to continue. This can be applied to other goals of course, such as learning Arabic. A sister said to me, ”If I'd stuck with it when I started 6 years ago, I'd be in this class with those peers......”

May Allah allow us to reach the loftiest of our goals.

نسأل الله التوفيق
